The govt has made sure that laws are passed to guard American citizens who do the honest thing. In many cases under qui tam law folks who show corrupt actions are also entitled to protection so that in no eventuatity can an employer terminate, postpone, demote, pester or threaten someone who has exposed the company to bribery.

History of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act of 1977
The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act was passed by the then president Jimmy Carter in 1977 after an inquiry into illegal payments. The inquiring into committee (the US Securities and Exchange Commission) revealed that over 400 top US firms admitted that they made illegal or at the very least questionable payments to foreign political parties, foreign states and foreign officials to the tune of over $300 million.
These abuses ran the whole range of illegality and included bribery of foreign officers to induce some kind of propitious result to something known as facilitating payments. These payments were made to make certain that govt. bodies turned a blind eye to certain ecclesiastic or ministerial obligations that would otherwise have been required.
Two famous bribes came firstly from the aerospace company Lockheed in which they paid foreign governments to prefer their products so making a very rosy future for the company (even though illegally). The second bribe came from the company Chiquita Brands Global who were one of America’s largest importers of bananas and tropical fruits. It comically became known as the “Bananagate” ‘ scandal when it was leaked that the company executive bribed the then Honduran President Oswaldo Lopez Arrellano to the sum of $2.5 million so that he would lower taxes.
